Emily is a Chartered and Registered Counselling Psychologist with over ten years’ experience in the field of mental health. She received her Master’s degree in Applied Psychology in 2012 and her Doctorate in Counselling Psychology in 2015. Emily has practiced therapeutically with individuals and groups across a variety of NHS and third sector settings, including services for young people, adult mental health, and specialist trauma services. She is experienced in the support and supervision of various staff groups.
Emily is interested in working with both young people and adults. When working with an individual, her aim is to build on the person’s strengths while supporting them to cope with any challenges they may be facing. Emily can also offer consultations to parents and carers of young people. Emily works together with her clients to explore their unique issues and tailors her intervention to the needs of each person. To do this, she draws on various therapeutic approaches, such as Compassion-Focused Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, Schema Therapy, Play Therapy and Person-Centred Therapy.
Emily also contributes to teaching at Glasgow Caledonian University as occasional lecturer, covering topics such as trauma, social exclusion, and Compassion-Focused Therapy. Emily is Chair of the British Psychological Society’s Division of Counselling Psychology Scotland.
