Plato Chan
Plato is a Human Factors practitioner with more than 16 years’ experience in the field, having worked at consultancy companies and in the product manufacture and public transport industries.
Throughout his career, he has been involved in a broad range of human factors topics. His earlier days were focusing on usability studies, product design reviews and human-machine interface design.
Plato then worked as a human factors consultant, advising railway system designers and operators on human factors integration, fatigue management, and ergonomic design evaluations of new trains, ticket machines and control systems, as well as delivering training on human factors topics. As a human factors team lead of the railway operating company, he was responsible for managing human factors processes within the safety management system, conducting human factors studies in operation and maintenance activities and providing human factors inputs to incidents investigations.
Since joining the Keil Centre in 2022, Plato has been involved in human factors training delivery, topical human factors and ergonomic studies, safety behaviour gap analysis, safety critical procedure development and human reliability assessment.
Plato holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology, a MPhil from the University of Hong Kong, and an MSc in Human Factors from the University of Nottingham. He is a chartered member of the Chartered Institute of Human Factors and Ergonomics in the UK and a member of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society in the US.
